Welcome to Cairo :)

It took approximately forever to get there…but we did it!!! We arrived in Cairo early Wednesday morning and were welcomed very enthusiastically by the people of Egypt! The girls and I helped each other with our luggage and their two hockey bags full of clothes provoked a loud “Welcome to Egypt Canadians!”. We were asked several times if we needed help moving our bags, but we were instructed to say “no thank you”, as we had school staff waiting there for us! A British boy noticed us struggling with three carts (piled with suitcases and backpacks!) and said, “seriously ladies, do you need help?”. He must have witnessed our declining of previous offers. We accepted his offer though…because he wasn’t expecting money in return! Genuine niceness…I like it!

When we collected our luggage and moved towards the exit, the principals were there to greet us! They gave us big hugs and were excited to see us! I was impressed with their enthusiasm at 4 in the morning!

A trip to duty free and four bottles of white wine later (purchased, not consumed), and we were on the bus to the hotel! There was so much to see on the ride to Maadi (the city where we will be living), however I was too tired to keep my eyes open the entire ride! I did witness many beautiful mosques, but there is much more to see than that!

The hotel room we are staying at is MASSIVE – even for three people (I was sharing a room with the sisters). I’m not kidding. It is the same size as the top floor of my house at home! There are three big bedrooms (with queen size beds and big wardrobes!), a dining room, a family room, two bathrooms and a kitchen! And a balcony!
Upon arrival, we ran out to the balcony to witness the beauty in front of us. Leaning over the balcony, just like a perfect movie moment, the one sister turned to us and said “welcome to Cairo, ladies!”. An unforgettable moment….followed by some sleep!

Oh, and I should tell you...my little silver stallion (aka Canon) is all tuckered out. It won't hold a charge now. Poor thing. Even new batteries every 2 minutes won't help. Could this mean I get to buy a new camera? (How sad) xo
