We Wear Our Sunglasses at Night!

I knew I was moving to the desert. And I knew this implied lots and lots of sand. But “lots and lots” doesn’t even begin to capture the daily dirt we encounter!

There is sand absolutely everywhere. There is sand in our apartment, in our shower, on our balcony, in my backpack, in my lip gloss, in my hair, in the school, on my office chair, in the graduated cylinder that is LOCKED up in the science lab cupboard……EVERYWHERE!

We are dirty the second we are done showering. In fact, I’m not even sure if we get clean in the shower. Dirt sticks to us (thank you, sweat!) and we cannot seem to escape it. I feel like we are at camp every single day. Real camp. The kind with tents and bug spray!

In your eyes is the worst place for sand to be :) Tonight, for some silly reason, we thought that sand would not blow off the ground because it was dark outside. What kind of science was this based on?! Haha, it brings an entire new meaning to the lyrics of Corey Hart. AHA – we get it! Next time you sing along with Corey, think of me and my roommates, marching around with our sunglasses at night!

p.s. the good thing is that a sandcastle competition can break out at any moment in a land of sand!!! And, you can recruit the cockroaches as residents in your lovely creation!

p.p.s. I saw my very FIRST cockroach today! It was in the school…outside of the computer lab. I said ‘hello’ and ran away! :)
