Dear Family and Friends (who expressed anger towards the subject of this post),
I heard the great news about yesterday’s weather and I wish I were there to share my excitement with you! Snow on October 21st, 2008. What a GLORIOUS thought :) I was especially glad to hear there was some accumulation….allowing for small and short-lived snowman and snowballs. LUCKY! It was 27 degrees Celsius in Cairo yesterday – which shattered all of my hopes of a similar weather report in Egypt. In fact…my hopes were so shattered that I began to feel quite homesick last night, as indicated by my ceased laughter and invisible smile! My roommates noticed it too. Here is how the situation was resolved:
Mr. Kelly: Lindsay what is wrong?
Lindsay: It is snowing at home. I am homesick.
(Insert 3 minutes of silence here.)
Mr. Kelly: Guess what? It is snowing in our apartment too! (Mr. Kelly begins to throw MANY ripped-up pieces of white paper on top of me!)
(I am laughing so hard at this point, but crying so hard at the same time.)
Ms. Emily: Quick, make a snowball! Throw it back at him!
(Insert more tears and laughter from the homesick one. Mr. Kelly continues to make snow!)
Ms. Emily: Lindsay, you can make a snow angel on the floor!
(Mr. Kelly starts to sing Christmas songs. Lindsay feels happy. The laughter is back and the smile has reappeared!)
P.s. You should all be happy to know that although I cannot see the snow, I can feel the cold. Apparently I tend to say “I’m freezing” a lot here. Does that sound familiar?!
