SOLO in CAIRO.

This weekend, my “thinking place” was the lodge. To continue the “when do we ever teach?” trend, we had a five day holiday weekend. Surprisingly, I chose (yes, CONFIDENTLY DECIDED) to spend four of those days completely alone. Weird for me, I know………....I love the blissful sounds of singing, laughing, joking, screaming, and complaining created by the ELKETEERS. We are together and having fun all the time – while we work, while we cook (or while Kelly cooks), while we do laundry…….…….we create fun everywhere, anywhere, and anytime. So why would I CHOOSE to remain home while they embarked on an incredible camping adventure in the black and white desert? Besides the fact that I am the world’s worst camper (haha), I needed to catch up with the singing, laughing, joking, screaming, and complaining that was going on inside my head :) And so I spent the holiday alone. My “home alone” activities included:

Going to bed at 8 o’clock. (yahoo!)
Blaring music of all kinds and singing like the next American Idol.
Speaking of American Idol, I caught the performances AND the results show! (Go Adam!)
Tea parties. (I found a chai tea package, hidden in the cupboard! I heart DG.)
Cereal parties! (Yes, I splurged for some familiar North American cereal!)
Daily trips to the gym.
Laundry.
Texts from my roommates. (“Are you okay? How are you? What are you up to?”)
Season one of One Tree Hill.
Wine.
Homework.
Dark purple nails.
Fresh Egyptian Cotton sheets :)
Early mornings with BBC.
Skype. (Love you, Sara!)
Jared’s Bagels….mmmmm, cinnamon crunch!

Ah, talk about a personalized prescription! The lodge may not be a bench in London (re: photo), but it is the best darn thinking place I have encountered since!

Life at the lodge is now back to normal. My roommates returned home from the desert last night, covered in sand and full of funny stories. Kelly got right back at it in the kitchen – devilled eggs and potato salad at 10 pm…….fried potatoes and eggs in the morning….hamburgers for lunch…….what a guy! Emily has returned to her familiar spot on the couch, the only spot I can see when I peek out of my room. I like knowing she is there. And Christa, she’s back to being Ms. Fixit – working her hardest to fix Kelly’s computer which happened to die early this morning. And me, I just keep stealing as many hugs as I can get. They are home!

Back to school tomorrow :)

Every time we say "Egyptian Cotton", Joyce smiles. Funny eh? Glad you had a weekend for 'extreme self care'. Love you more. Mama xo
