The last few days of school have been frustrating. Exams are next week and students are JUST starting to come to me and ask “what can I do to improve my grade?”. AY, AY, AY! Am I the only one who remembers being on their case for WEEKS?! And so, I share with you my current frustrations:
- getting students caught up from unexplained absences and suspensions
- having students walk in late and comment “oh, today is presentation day?”
- receiving 3/15 final research assignments (this ruins my entire plan of spacing out the
marking of culminating tasks AND exams)
- lost textbooks (what do you mean you lost it months ago? So much for practice
questions…)
- the constant “but we have two exams in one day” speech (hmm…..it’s called time
management)
- waiting for students to show up for “extra help”
- “But Miss, I REALLY have to go to the washroom!” I found them smoking in the stalls,
ten minutes later.
- “Do we have to come to class this week?” (This deserved no response).
I could go on…….but the point is not a tally of frustrations. My point is this:
On my bus ride home, I thought to myself: “I like being a teacher.”
And then I thought to myself: “A class pet is a great idea!”
